NEOJIBÁ’s ironically named nucleo, Bairro da Paz (neighborhood of peace), is located in a troubled Salvador favela.  Students descend daily from the high stacks of houses to attend band rehearsals inside the safe confines of the school.  Though the environment outside is tumultuous, inside the nucleo, students and teachers work together to create harmonious community.
