Mucuchíes is a small mountain town nestled high in the Andes of Merída. Many of the students are the children of rural farmers and balance their time practicing with farming. “Often, they come to the nucleo with dirt from the land still under their fingernails,” noted Nucleo Director, Roaima. The commute for teachers can sometimes be close to two hours, but they make the trip willingly because of the love they share for this special community.
